The man with whom King Charles III. Archimandrite Ephraim is looking for support in his fight against cancer. He wears a white beard, the black habit of Greek monks and is the abbot of a Greek monastery. The clergyman boasts in English daily newspapers of a 25-year-long, secret friendship with the king. At some point in the days after Charles’ diagnosis the two spoke, perhaps the king was also visiting and they prayed together, the reports do not clearly state this. But Abbot Ephraim seems full of confidence: “I believe he will overcome it,” he is quoted as saying.
