Two people, including a 9-year-old boy, were fatally injured in an altercation in Magdeburg early Sunday morning. Three other people were injured. An 18-year-old suspect was temporarily arrested, the police said on Sunday. In addition to the 9-year-old boy, a 42-year-old woman was fatally injured, according to police spokesman Stefan Brodtrück.
The injured are two girls aged 13 and 15 and a 17-year-old teenager. It is currently assumed that the crime has a family connection, said the spokesman. According to the spokesman, the three injured people are currently receiving medical care in hospitals in Magdeburg.
According to initial investigations, the 18-year-old is said to have attacked the five people with a “previously unknown object” on Oldenburger Strasse early Sunday morning. The suspect was caught by police officers near the crime scene. According to the spokesman, there was never any danger to third parties. It is not yet known why the altercation occurred. It is also still unclear how the victims died. “The means of crime – whether it was an object, a tool or a weapon – is currently still the subject of the ongoing investigation,” said a police spokesman in Magdeburg on Sunday afternoon.
According to a police spokesman, the crime scene team from the State Criminal Police Office was on site on Sunday morning and took over the forensics. We are also checking to see whether the suspect can still be questioned this Sunday.
