A six-year-old girl was found lifeless in an apartment in Bonn and died shortly afterwards. The police arrested the child’s mother, she announced on Tuesday morning. “Due to the overall circumstances,” a murder squad was set up.
The child was found after an initial rescue operation on the Rhine. According to investigators, a 46-year-old woman initially went into the water there, but was pulled out of the river by two witnesses. Rescue workers took her to a clinic. She then gave information about her child to emergency services. It’s in her apartment.
The girl was then found lifeless there. Rescue workers transported it to a clinic “under resuscitation measures,” as the investigators reported. But the six-year-old died there.
Further background was initially unclear. On Monday evening, the fire department initially reported how the woman had been rescued from the water. She was said to have drifted in the river near the bank. A passer-by went into the water and pulled the woman back to dry land “with a courageous grip”. The fire brigade and rescue service were already on the way – but the woman was already rescued when the first vehicles arrived.
