Thanks to striker Erling Haaland, Manchester City has taken a giant step towards their fourth championship title in the English Premier League in a row.

The former Dortmund player scored both goals in a high-class catch-up game at Tottenham Hotspur to make it 2-0 (0-0). Man City has now moved past rivals Arsenal FC with 88 points and can become the first club to win the Premier League championship four times in a row with a win against West Ham United on Sunday. Arsenal with the German international striker Kai Havertz, who had hoped in vain for help from their big rivals Tottenham, hosts Everton FC on Sunday.

The duel with City was a big dilemma for Spurs fans. On the one hand, the Tottenham supporters definitely do not begrudge their rivals from the north of London the championship title, but on the other hand, the club was still interested in qualifying for the Champions League. The defeat means that the five-point gap to Aston Villa can no longer be made up. Third-placed Liverpool FC had already secured participation in the premier class.

Both clubs played fully to win. Tottenham sometimes had more of the game, but City had the better chances, such as with Kevin De Bruyne’s shot (47th). Shortly afterwards, Haaland was there after a pass from De Bruyne (51′). In the second half, ex-Bielefeld keeper Stefan Ortega came on for the injured Ederson and saved ManCity from equalizing with a strong save against Heung-Min Son. After a foul on Jeremy Doku, Haaland made everything clear from the penalty spot (90.1).
