After a furious comeback, Austria almost achieved an ice hockey miracle at the Ice Hockey World Cup against defending champion Canada.
Coach Roger Bader’s team drew 1:6 against the record champions, but lost 6:7 after extra time. There was at least one point for the Austrians. Canada remains unbeaten in its third World Cup game in Prague.
After 38 minutes, the Canadians were comfortably leading 6-1. Everything looked like a clear success for the favorite. The Austrians equalized the game within 16 minutes and reached extra time shortly before the end after scoring 6:6. There, Canada’s captain John Tavares scored after 15 seconds to make it 7:6 for the North Americans.
