Lagerfeld had lived in the apartment for about a decade until his death in February 2019, as notary Thomas Jousselin from the Althémis law firm told the AFP news agency. It is housed in a 17th-century building on Quai Voltaire in the historic heart of Paris and offers spectacular views of the Seine and the Louvre.
According to Jousselin, Lagerfeld had the apartment completely redesigned, with a futuristic look with concrete floors and partitions made of sandblasted glass. The main room is 120 square meters in size and has a row of bookshelves. A dressing room of more than 50 square meters is separated from the bedroom with movable partitions.
According to the information, the auction of the apartment will take place at the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Interested parties can also bid online or by telephone. However, only those who have previously deposited 1.06 million euros as security are allowed to participate.
This type of auction was ordered by Lagerfeld’s Monegasque estate administrator. The responsible French notary Jousselin did not want to say who the proceeds from the auction would go to. However, he assured that there were “no conflicts about the sale.”
Lagerfeld, who was born in Hamburg, died in 2019 at the age of 85. He began his steep rise in the fashion world in Paris in the early 1950s and was legendary, among other things, for his spectacular fashion shows. His name is closely linked to the Chanel brand, and he also developed his own brand.
Numerous items from Lagerfeld’s estate had already been auctioned at several auctions in 2021 and 2022.
