Cycling star Primoz Roglic has won his first victory after moving to the German team Bora-hansgrohe. The Slovenian Giro d’Italia winner crossed the finish line fastest in 12:34 minutes in the ten-kilometer individual time trial at the start of the 63rd Tour of the Basque Country.

The 34-year-old won in the northern Spanish city of Irun, seven seconds ahead of Australian Jay Vine and ten ahead of Dane Mattias Skjelmose. Roglic’s German team colleague Maximilian Schachmann came eighth.

Roglic, who joined Bora at the beginning of the year, even made a driving mistake when he took a wrong turn shortly before the finish, but was then able to correct. The Belgian time trial world champion Remco Evenepoel was slowed down by a fall and finished fourth. Two-time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark, who won the Basque Country tour last year, finished fifth.

The Basque Country Tour ends on Saturday in Eibar. The hardest stage awaits the professionals with three climbs in the first category.
