The gynecologist Sheila de Liz is certain: If there were a therapy for men that protected against depression, colon cancer, bone loss, hardening of the arteries and heart attacks, it would be available without a prescription and “would be in the supermarket next to the barbecue equipment.” Such a therapy is known for women in menopause, but it has so far been used too rarely for de Liz’s taste: hormone replacement therapy, or HRT for short.
