Holstein Kiel has continued its march towards the Bundesliga. Coach Marcel Rapp’s team celebrated their fourth clean sheet win in a row with a 4-0 (3-0) win in Nuremberg.
This means that Kiel, in second place in the table, is already seven points ahead of relegation place three, six game days before the end of the season, where Hamburger SV currently lies. The Hanseatic League defeated relegation candidate 1. FC Kaiserslautern in a respectable game 2-1 (1-1). Fortuna Düsseldorf can displace HSV again on Sunday.
No goals between Elversberg and Magdeburg
League leaders FC St. Pauli suffered their third defeat of the season when they were outnumbered and inadvertently made the situation at the top more exciting again. The hapless Hamburg team surprisingly lost 1:2 (1:1) to Karlsruher SC in the evening game.
1. FC Magdeburg is slipping deeper and deeper into the relegation battle. Christian Titz’s team couldn’t get beyond a 0-0 draw at newly promoted SV Elversberg and have been waiting for a goal for five league games. Magdeburg is still in twelfth place with 32 points, but the lead over the relegation place is only two points. FC Schalke 04 and Eintracht Braunschweig could overtake Titz’s team as early as Sunday. Elversberg has a slightly larger cushion with 36 points, but is not yet through, especially given their own low form.
