With a Twitter post, the “courier princess” brought the net to a boil. The post generated over a million hits and over 60,000 interactions. What can you see on it: A pink cargo bike is parked on a small street, in front of it is a coach – both of them can’t get any further. This happens occasionally, but the “courier princess” is also proud to block the bus.
“I had a @LaSuze moment this morning and I’m still
What happened? The road is obviously narrow. Two cars don’t fit next to each other, neither does the bus and the bike. Of course, the “courier princess” could have got off, pushed the bike onto the sidewalk and thus resolved the situation. By the way, you are not allowed to drive on the footpath, but she didn’t want to, stopped instead. And let the bus stew. 15 minutes long. According to her own statement, it could have taken longer, but she didn’t have the time to wait for the police to arrive. The bus was not used in regular service, it transported a school class and a teacher.
One cannot deny the princess a certain stubbornness and, as expected, the anger of all drivers erupted on her account. But in fact it looks more complicated. The bottleneck is well known and clearly signposted with the traffic sign 308 “priority to oncoming traffic”. The bus has the side with the red arrow, the wheel has the side with the white one – i.e. priority. The bus would have to wait, but apparently didn’t want to. In addition, the princess states that she was already in the bottleneck, that the bus driver saw her there and nevertheless deliberately drove into the bottleneck. That was probably too much then. It’s ruthless anyway. If a car or even the garbage truck had been there, the bus driver would certainly have waited. But he trusted in the law of the strongest and bet that the wheel would give in. At least a questionable attitude for a professional driver transporting a school class. Turning back was obviously out of the question for the man.
And the courier princess? With mutual consideration – after all, paragraph 1 of the Road Traffic Act – she obviously doesn’t have it that way. Of course it’s a bit gaga when someone who wants to push others off the street on purpose also demands “consideration” for his ruthless intention.
All in all, it is a traffic conflict that can hardly be more German: one side insists on a “more horsepower is also more right of way” mentality, the other side has the mindset “I insist on my rights, no matter what it costs “.
