The 2024 party season is starting in Mallorca. The unofficial starting signal is the four-day opening of the cult pub Bierkönig on Playa de Palma, which begins on Wednesday. The following week, the biggest competitor, the Megapark, follows suit. The two largest discotheques in the German party hotspot at the so-called Ballermann have been open for weeks (in fact, the beer king doesn’t take a winter break), but it’s not until the opening party that the popular stretch of beach on the Spanish Mediterranean island traditionally gets really crowded.

Lots of Mallorca stars there

There is no official program for the four-day party yet. The Bierkönig stars Mia Julia, Peter Wackel and Tim Toupet can definitely be counted on. Also in the Megapark: Mickie Krause, whose first hit “Ten Naked Hairdressers” is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. “At the big opening, people deliberately come to Mallorca to see as many artists as possible. It seems to be a highlight for the fans,” said the 53-year-old pop singer and entertainer, who lives in Münsterland, in an interview with German press agency.

Regarding the rising prices on Mallorca – like everywhere else – Krause says (current hit: “More per mille than IQ”): “People just want to go on vacation and their wallets are a little looser. People are now saving more for their vacation .” The German is convinced that the European Football Championships will be particularly lively in the summer: “I’ve already seen a few European Championship games in the Megapark, that’s really a highlight. People are keen to celebrate on Mallorca and watch it Watching games in the beer garden when the weather is good will definitely be very crowded.”

Weather not in party mood yet

Meanwhile, the weather is not really playing along for the opening. After almost 30 degrees at the weekend, temperatures are expected to drop below 20 degrees. Rain is forecast. While the German partygoers are still happy, one or two Mallorcans are sure to be dreading it again. Pedro Marin, president of the hotel association on the Playa de Palma, described last year’s season as the worst ever. Too often, the mostly German holidaymakers made mistakes while drunk.

But Marin is hopeful that an increased police presence on the playa this year will prevent or at least reduce escapades. The Bierkönig opening will be the first big test.
