The Russian capital Moscow has again become the target of a drone attack. In the skyscraper district of Moskva City, where several ministries are also based, photos showed severe explosion damage to a building. Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, on the other hand, spoke of “insignificant damage” to the facades of two office buildings. Glass splinters from broken panes crashed onto the streets.
The Ministry of Defense in Moscow announced that two drones were brought down by the radio-electronic defense in Moskva City. The air defense shot down a drone in the Moscow region, the statement said. The ministry in Moscow blamed the “Kiev regime” for the attacks.
Some Muscovites suspected that at least one drone hit a 50-story building where the Ministry for Digitization also has offices. There was no official confirmation of this. The Russian state news agency Tass reported in the morning that a security guard had been injured. According to the agency, there were also temporarily no take-offs and landings at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport due to the dangerous situation. Flights were diverted. Operations continued at other airports in the region.
The metropolis of millions has already been the target of drone attacks on several occasions, which, however, bear no relation to the mass attacks by Russia in its war of aggression against Ukraine. Moscow repeatedly fired drones, rockets and cruise missiles at the capital Kiev. There were dead, injured and massive damage in Kiev.
