Favorite fish now is Alaska Pollock

Last year, Alaska pollock replaced salmon as the Germans’ favorite fish. According to the information, this was followed by tuna, as in the previous year. Fourth and fifth place went to herring and shrimp. As in the previous year, the Germans preferred to eat the fish from the can and as a frozen product. This was followed by crustaceans, molluscs and fresh fish.

Traditionally, most fish was eaten in the north of the country. With a per capita consumption of 6.6 kilograms, the people of Bremen replaced the people of Schleswig-Holstein with a consumption of 6.5 kilograms. This was followed by Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, each with 6.0 kilograms. As in the previous year, Baden-Württemberg came last with 4.8 kilograms of fish per capita.
