The bluish shimmering Lamborghini Lanzador, a five meter long electric SUV, was one of the big stars at Monterey Car Week. The two-door symbiosis of SUV and Gran Turismo should win new customers for the dream car manufacturer from Sant’Agata d’Bolognese as the fourth Lamborghini series from 2028. The northern Italians – known for high-performance cars with potential for addiction – have big plans for the coming years and do not want to be satisfied with current record sales. The entire portfolio will be electrified from next year. The new Lamborghini Revuelto as a super sports car will start with a plug at the end of the year. The successor to the Aventador will be the first Lamborghini model with an electric module, because the V12 naturally aspirated engine becomes the first plug-in hybrid thanks to an electric front axle of our electrification strategy”, emphasizes Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini, “the V12 is an iconic symbol of our supersport heritage and history. The Revuelto was born to break new ground by offering a new 12-cylinder engine with hybrid technology combined, creating the perfect balance between the emotion our customers want and the need to reduce emissions.”
While the 218-kilogram, 6.5-liter V12 naturally aspirated engine with its 606 kW / 825 hp thunders behind the driver’s cab, two 110 kW / 150 hp electric motors, each weighing just 18.5 kg, hum on the front axle, providing an additional 350 provide Nm of torque. The third electric motor, also with 110 kW / 150 hp / 150 Nm, is installed in the housing of the dual-clutch transmission, which weighs around 185 kilograms and, like the two electric engines on the front axle, is powered by a small 3.8 kWh battery located in the cardan tunnel hidden. The battery pack is charged either in 30 minutes at the charging station, via regenerative braking or via the naturally aspirated V12 engine. Assuming that the total of 13 different driving programs will overwhelm most pilots when choosing their options. Unusual: the Revuelto is driven purely electrically via the front axle alone. The power spectrum lies between a manageable 180 hp in front-wheel drive city mode and 1,015 hp in all-wheel drive Corsa mode. The Revuelto comes as an opponent of all pure electric hyper athletes just in time for the company’s 60th birthday.
But it won’t stop there, because the volume model from Lamborghini, the power SUV Urus, will not only get various technical innovations with the facelift in the coming year, but also for the first time an electric vitamin boost. The four-liter eight-cylinder, which has long been available as a plug-in version in the sister models Audi Q8 and Porsche Cayenne, will also live with the power of two hearts in the future. An electric motor not only provides additional power, but also an electric range to make the successful model fit for the coming years.
“By the end of next year we will be electrifying our entire range,” explains Stephan Winkelmann, “because in addition to the plug-in hybrid that the Urus is getting with its facelift, the successor to the Huracan will also have a hybrid drive.” Lamborghini is still lagging behind with both models. However, it is no longer a secret that, in addition to the refreshed Urus, the Huracan successor to be launched at the end of 2024 will also be powered by a turbocharged eight-cylinder with four liters.
Real sucker fans must therefore hurry to get one of the last Huracan models. Both as a Tecnica and in the version of the road racing car or as a Strado off-roader, it is mandatory with the martial-sounding ten-cylinder with 5.2 liters displacement. The successor with a four-liter V8 and electric support should therefore hardly end at 640 hp, but the electric motors on the front axle should ensure a maximum output of 800 hp. Since Audi is phasing out its R8, the Huracan successor no longer has a brother with four rings, but is closely related to the Lamborghini Revuelto super sports car, which will be available to customers from the end of this year. The question remains as to what the next generation of sports cars will look like. However, since both models will be launched in 2024, the future of hybrid combustion engines seems to be secured for the time being, and a decision will probably have to be made in three years at the earliest as to what the future will look like for any successors.
However, the first purely electric model will not come until 2028. The five-meter-long SUV is the little brother of the upcoming Urus, which will also be electrified at the end of the decade. The project name Lanzador has been known since it was unveiled at the Monterey Car Week, which, like the Urus, has the best chance of bearing this name as a sales model. Visually, the Lanzador is a real Lamborghini – beefy, powerful and polarizing. At almost five meters in length, it is slightly shorter than the current Urus, which continues to enjoy huge demand from customers. It can be assumed that the Urus successor, like the international competition, will grow a few centimeters in the future in order to meet the increased safety and comfort requirements. The biggest difference, however, are the two doors, which should make it an electric Gran Turismo. “With the fourth model, we are opening up a new vehicle segment: that of the Ultra GT. Thanks to groundbreaking new technologies, this will offer customers a new, incomparable Lamborghini driving experience,” says Stephan Winkelmann.
The Lanzador should have at least 1,000 kW / 1,360 hp and, despite the lack of a combustion engine, should drive as emotionally as a Lamborghini thanks to all-wheel drive, a steering rear axle and variable power distribution. An air spring ensures variable ground clearance, with the driving programs being coupled to extendable aerodynamic modules that ensure the lowest possible air resistance or maximum contact pressure. Rouven Mohr, Chief Technical Officer of Lamborghini: “For us, electrification does not mean a restriction, but an intelligent way to develop more power, performance and drivability.” This should also apply to the upcoming Urus, which should roll out shortly after the Lanzador.
