When it comes to vacuum cleaners, customers have an amazing price range. Some cost half a fortune, others are suspiciously cheap. In which price range should one reach there? The Stiftung Warentest tested models for 60 euros to 1320 euros. Result: Good vacuum cleaners are available from 200 euros. How much you ultimately have to invest depends primarily on the system you choose.

In the test, classic cable vacuum cleaners and cordless vacuum cleaners competed against each other. Vacuum robots were not part of the comparison. The two systems tested each have advantages and disadvantages. Due to the lack of a cable, cordless vacuum cleaners are more handy and practical for quick vacuuming in between, for example around the dining table. If several rooms or even floors are to be vacuumed, there is no need to change the cable. It’s annoying, however, when the battery dies before the apartment has been cleaned. In addition, many cordless vacuum cleaners are very loud.

Another big difference is the price. Good cordless vacuum cleaners can only be found in the test from 600 euros upwards. The test winner Vorwerk Kobold VK7 even costs a proud 1320 euros. But it offers the best suction power and can also deal with animal hair in the carpet. In contrast to most other battery models, it has a dust bag – otherwise it is usual for the collection container to be emptied into the garbage. Also good among the cordless candidates are the Miele Triflex HX2 Pro (890 euros), Miele Triflex HK2 Sprinter (730 euros) and Bosch BSS825FRSH (620 euros).

Some cheap cordless vacuum cleaners for prices under 300 euros were also tested. However, they weakened – sometimes significantly – in terms of suction power. None of them were good. The latest model from the British premium manufacturer Dyson was not included in the test field because it came out too late for the study.

If you don’t want to spend much money, you are better served with a cable vacuum cleaner. Good models are available from 200 euros. Cable vacuum cleaners are available with both a dust bag and a box, which can be unhygienic if dirt is thrown up when emptying into the garbage. The best cable models in the test with bag and box came from Bosch and cost less than 300 euros. Miele appliances also did well. Three vacuum cleaners in the test even cost less than 100 euros, but only achieved satisfactory results.
