Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has secured the best time in the Formula 1 final practice session for the Italian Grand Prix.
The Spaniard set the fastest lap of 1:20.912 minutes on the high-speed track in Monza, to the delight of thousands of Scuderia fans. With a razor-thin lead of just 0.086 seconds, Sainz relegated world champion Max Verstappen in the Red Bull to second place. Record champion Lewis Hamilton finished third in the Mercedes.
One day after the best time in the second free practice session, Sainz once again delighted the Tifosi with the fastest lap. His Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc improved to fourth just before the end of the session. Nico Hülkenberg even made it into the top ten in eighth place before qualifying on Saturday (4 p.m. / Sky) in the Haas.
Before the 14th Grand Prix of the season, Verstappen leads the drivers’ standings by a wide margin. After nine wins in a row, he is 138 points ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez.
