The German national soccer team ended its series of five test games without a win in the first game after parting ways with Hansi Flick. Under interim team boss Rudi Völler, the DFB team beat France 2-1 in Dortmund.
The players in the individual review:
Ter Stegen: The number one initially had little to do. Then against Tchouameni (57th) and Griezmann (82nd). Powerless when Griezmann conceded a penalty (89′).
Tah: The Bayer professional had to help out as a right-back and made life difficult for Rabiot and Griezmann. Confident, present presentation.
Süle: Concentrated on what he can do. Solid in duels, there when things got tough for the man next to him.
Rüdiger: Safe as head of defense, he adjusted his teammates well at the back. Won important duels against Kolo Muani.
Henrichs: His eleventh international match was Leipzig’s best. Got on the offensive and prepared the lead (4th). Out a good ten minutes before the end.
Gündogan: The captain played cautiously at the beginning and directed. After a duel with Rabiot, he was injured and had to leave the field in the 25th minute.
Can: In his home game, the Dortmund player fluctuated between strong duels and a few unnecessary bad passes. Applause from the scene for a tackle against Coman (45th).
Sané: The Bayern professional started explosively and often radiated danger. Helped out energetically at the back. Crowned his game with the 2-0 (87th) – and then caused the penalty kick (88th).
Wirtz: The Leverkusen player was on the move a lot as a playmaker and initiated good combinations. Showed his huge talent at least to some extent. Substituted in the final phase.
Gnabry: Much braver performance down the left than against Japan, his early shot went just wide (9th). Substituted in the 64th minute.
Müller: Stood where he had to be at the opening goal (4th). Worked everywhere, was an anchor and driver for his teammates. After about an hour it was over.
Great: Came early for Gündogan’s second international match (25′), saw a yellow card in the first half for a necessary tactical foul. Ball-proof and very present.
Brandt: Played in the second half in his home stadium. Used very offensively for the last few minutes, but had no chance to score.
Havertz: Came on for Müller (64th). Strong pass to Sané for the decisive 2-0.
Gosens: In action on his left side in the final phase. Again very committed, intercepted some of the opponent’s passes.
Hofmann: Should provide relief for the last few minutes. Also cautious in defense.
