Father of Baraboo High School graduate blocks superintendent from shaking daughter’s hand
A Baraboo High School graduation ceremony took a dramatic turn when the father of a graduate intervened to prevent the district superintendent from shaking his daughter’s hand. The incident, captured on video by TV43 Baraboo, shows the man forcibly pulling Superintendent Rainey Briggs away as his daughter crossed the stage to receive her diploma.
Briggs can be heard requesting the man to back off, while school staff and police officers intervened to address the situation. The man was eventually escorted out of the school, and a disorderly conduct charge was referred to the Sauk County District Attorney’s Office.
The confrontation highlights the tensions within the Baraboo School District, as a group of residents is seeking to recall School Board President Kevin Vodak and other administrators. Allegations of favoritism, inadequate support for teachers, and unjust dismissals have fueled the recall efforts, with social media platforms serving as a platform for airing grievances.
As the district navigates these challenges, the safety and well-being of students, staff, and community members remain a top priority. The incident at the graduation ceremony underscores the need for constructive dialogue and resolution within the Baraboo community.
