It was not easy for the young prince Joachim, who had grown up on the polished floors as he as only nine-year-old found out, that it had been decided that he should be a farmer as an adult.
It told an honest prince Joachim in the third section of the documentary ‘Prince Joachim tells’, which was sent Wednesday evening.
“I was quite little, when I found out that I should be a farmer. But I was not grown up on a farm. It was only something I had heard about and seen and visited. So I was in this respect not, as both you yourself, your father and probably your son, brought up with it.”
How to explained to prince Joachim the lollandske pawn Henrik Engberg Nielsen, as he was out to visit in the documentary.
the Peasant and the prince had a talk about being a pawn. Prince Joachim got already as a very young man to know that he should inherit Schackenborg, after the childless lensgrevepar Schack was granted the border castle for him.
It has previously been suggested that it was not quite easy for the prince. In the documentary, the prince the leaf from the mouth and tells about the difficult gift:
“It was a new situation to think about. The light side of my youth was that I knew what I had to study. It is for me a time, I will not make – but I must also just recognize that there was an end date on it,” says the prince is very open in the documentary.
Although prince Joachim trained as a farmer, he was apparently never completely familiar with farm life.
the end date came in 2014, when prince Joachim threw in the towel after barely two decades, having struggled to establish himself as a farmer. He sold the castle to the Schackenborg foundation, which was using several of Denmark’s richest families, and since he moved, princess Marie and their two children, a villa in Klampenborg.
In 2019, the selected prince Joachim and family to move to Paris – in the interim a year – where the prince is studying at the prestigious military academy École Militaire.
His new life he refers only briefly:
“And so you stand there and needs Oslobet to find something new to do – and it is, I then also started,” says the prince.
It was, however, was not without sadness, that he gave up the victorian castle.
“Until five-six years ago, it was because somewhere, there was a generation after me that also had to (continue as a farmer, ed.). It changed, and then there is something new on the drawing board,” says the prince.
Wednesday’s section is really about the role of the school in the history of denmark.
According to historian and kongehusekspert Sebastian Olden-Jørgensen is the review of the school’s history, however, is not impressive.
“I think that the historical comes back for the personal. The headline is the school, but we get not so much to know about. It is more about heritage and the environment and mønsterbrydere,” he says.
He alludes, among others, for a sequence where the prince has a very honest conversation with the doctor and the author Steffen Jacobsen, who even managed to break the social heritage.
Sebastian Olden-Jørgensen roses, in turn, that we see a completely different and more open side of prince Joachim.
“The personal part of it is much more successful than the professional. It is not only prince Joachim of denmark, we hear. There is a certain authenticity in the conversations. The others are allowed to be there. I also think it is good.”, he says.
Also kongehusekspert and author Søren Jakobsen is excited about the personal side of prince Joachim, as we get to see:
“I did not expect an openness at that level, as he actually opened up. It is an unprecedented openness that we see. And a self-knowledge, which is very klædelig. There is drawn a line, without the Schackenborg and his failure as a farmer, referred to by a word – to where he is now,” he says, and adds:
“He gets drawn a picture here of a second prince Joachim, who is at a crossroads in his life – and it can get a little good out of, for he may well relax and watch ordinary people in the eyes. And I think a little is some lag to it a little more, the arrogant image he has created in the past. It here was exciting.”.
B. T. has several times tried to get a comment from prince Joachim of denmark for the documentary, but the royal family has not yet returned with a reply.
