When 21-year-old Sabine Vestergaard was a barista at Espresso House, she was asked always to meet a quarter of an hour before her shifts started.
She had to do purely on the kaffebarens toilets. A task, such as Espresso House had not thought to give her salary, because working time was first recorded from the monitor sense the real start.
“It was already during my training, I got to know that you should meet before to make the toilets clean. They said, that this is how we do it here. I think it is to utilize that you will want to do his best.”
It tells Sabine Vestergaard from Aarhus, who does not wish to participate in the article with the picture.
In the wake of Swedish following the split revelations of reprehensible working conditions at the Espresso House in Sweden has B. T. had contact with a total of 45 employees and former employees. They paint a similar picture of the unhealthy working conditions in the Nordic region’s largest kaffekæde.
And the cleaning of the toilets in work is not the only, baristaerne in Espresso House does not receive pay for – unless you consider pizza as a reward.
Espresso House also keeps rengøringsaftener, which is mandatory for the employees. One evening, as they do not get paid for. They are instead promised pizza.
“There was made a Facebook-postings in our group, which said that it was obligatory to meet up. You had to be at. 18, and then we got a list of tasks that should be done, and then we had to work until it was finished. It was so first at. 01 of the night,” says Sabine Vestergaard, who was employed as a fuldtidsbarista Gencobahis in three months.
“If you asked about salary, so they got to know that no, of course, you were not it. It was seven hours of free work,” continues Sabine.
the 21-year-old Frederikke Svelle is a former Coffee Shop Manager (store manager, red.) in the Espresso House, and she confirms to B. T., that she has been asked to arrange the unpaid rengøringsaftener.
“I have been asked to keep more of the kind of evenings, but I have said that I would not. I do not think that the pizza is a payment, but I know that many have held them,” says Frederikke Svelle, which has insisted on to make his coffee shop clean themselves instead of getting baristaerne to do it for free.
His Svelle tells that the Coffee Shop Managers are advised to keep unpaid staff meetings each month.
“I do not think that it is in working order. Espresso House hires some skilled people, and so they throw it on the ground. They do not treat their colleagues properly,” she says.
B. T. has over time tried to get an interview with the Espresso Houses director, Claus Forester, but Espresso House will continue to only express themselves in writing through a spokesperson:
‘It is a clear mistake, if someone is asked to perform tasks for which they are not vagtplanlagte and thus remunerated for. We very much regret, if it has taken place in some of our coffee shops.’
