Malta’s prime minister will resign when a replacement is selected. The process will start in January, he says.
After massive pressure from the protesters, the opposition and the family of a killed journalist shall communicate to Malta’s prime minister Joseph Muscat that he will resign from his post.
It will happen when there is found a replacement, he says in a televised speech on Sunday evening.
He adds that he will ask his party to initiate the process to find a successor the 12. January.
In the course of the weekend several sources close to the government cited 18. January as the date on which Muscat would probably come back.
the Prime minister’s announcement comes amid the biggest political scandal, his government has been hit by for years.
the Scandal revolves around the killing of the investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in 2017.
Caruana Galizia was known to look for information on economic crime among high-ranking maltese.

the chief of staff and the minister of tourism has resigned, and the country’s economy minister, has been suspend from the government.
Muscat said in a television speech Sunday night that he will also resign as party leader of the ruling party.
