Plants can in a way speak!

Or at least something that could remind a bit about to yell for help.

It suggests an israeli study, writes New Scientist according to the Science.dk.

the Researchers from Tel Aviv University placed the microphones 10 centimeters from the tobacco and tomato plants and recorded the audio. They got a surprise.

they found out that the plants did ‘squeal’ on the frequencies that humans can’t hear.

It came to pass, in particular, when the plants were stressed due to water shortages, or if their stems were trimmed.

on average, made the drought-affected tomato plants 35 sounds per hour, while tobaksplanter made 11. The plants had no stress, made fewer than one sound in an hour.

The ultralyde, as the plants sent were at frequencies of 20 to 100 kilohertz, which means that insects and some mammals will be able to hear it up to five metres from the plant, while people can not.

‘here, The findings may change the way we think about the plant kingdom, which until now has been described as quiet,’ write the researchers from Tel Aviv University in their study.

the Study is not yet published in a scientific journal and is, therefore, not been peer-reviewed – rated by other independent researchers.

It means that we don’t yet know whether the results from the study are workable.

But if the results turns out to hold water, one can imagine a future where farmers listened to their crops in order to improve the harvest.
