There is a growing desire by the public that queen Margrethe abdicerer and leave the throne to crown prince Frederik, who would thus reign together with crown princess Mary.

It shows a new survey by the analyseorganisationen YouGov has carried out for the B. T., and kongehuseksperten Søren Jakobsen calls ‘shocking’.

In contrast to the past, where there was a clear desire that the Queen should be seated, people are now split down the middle. 41 percent of the respondents think that the Queen should abdicate in 2020, while 40 percent are opposed, and 19 percent have replied ‘do not know’.

“It surprises me really. Support for the monarchy and respect for the Queen is huge, so it is no exaggeration to say that there is a chokmåling,” says Soren Jakobsen.

“I have in the previous studies noted a clear majority in favour, that the Queen should be seated, because she has done well and been very strong after prince Henry’s death. There has been a shifting mood,” says the expert, who has an idea of why it happened:

“You look both in business and in politics, that topfigurerne will be switched out periodically. The time is during from the council offices. The shift in the investigation shows enough, that a large part of the danes believe that the Queen has done its duty, and with very good the right to withdraw and hand over the reins to crown prince, who has shown that they can do it,” says Soren Jakobsen.

In a YouGov survey from 2010 on, whether Queen Margrethe should abdicate as soon as possible, was only 19 percent of the respondents agreed, while 48 percent disagreed. 28 percent were neither agree or disagree, while four percent answered ‘do not know’.

In January of this year, was asked whether the Queen should abdicate in the year. Here said 30 percent ‘yes’, 48% ‘no’ and 22 percent ‘do not know’.

Queen Margrethe has repeatedly stated that she intends to stay in power until his death, and the expert think, that she will keep his word.

“It is the people’s wishful thinking, that she abdicerer. She is strong-willed bordering on the stubborn, and a lady, who will die with their boots – or in this case the crown – the on. She will be faithful to the promise she has given to himself, and the legacy she has from her father, who was king until his death,” says Jakobsen.

At YouGov confirms the chief communications officer, Lars Gylling, that there has been a shift in the attitude of the population to whether the Queen should abdicate. He believes that her age may play into the increasing desire, she gives the throne from him.

“unlike previous years we are writing now, that the Queen reaches 80 years of age. It can mean something, that we give the information. If it was omitted, I could imagine that several would say that she should be seated. The wording can mean a little bit. It is therefore difficult to compare with the measurements without any information about her age,” says Gylling to B. T.
