Champions League works well in its current format, says Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer
Bayern Munich have no interest in breaking out of or downgrade the Bundesliga to participate in a closed european super league.
It beats the club’s new president, Herbert Hainer, on Saturday, stuck in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung, according to German news agency dpa.
He believes that the current structure of the international club competitions to function optimally, because you lack even the need to make sure to qualify in contrast to a european super league, where regardless of performance, may be self-penned as a participant, if you are a big club in a big country.
– We will be in the Bundesliga. There is no if or but, says klubpræsidenten.
– At the same time, we want of course to get international success, and it is, therefore, that the Champions League exists. I think that the tournament is a success story and has a good format.
– So one can safely say that Bayern Munich is not at all interested in any league, says Herbert Hainer to the newspaper.
The former Adidas-manager took over the presidency of the German rekordmestre in november, when he was chosen as the holder Uli Hoeness’ successor.
Last year showed the leaked documents from the whistleblowerplatformen Football Leaks, that “the founders agreed to create a european football tournament under the name of the European Super League, which shall take place each season for an initial period of 20 years – starting in 2021/22.”
According to the documents, should the league consist of 16 teams, where the 11 teams were referred to as the founders of the league, and the 11 team would be guaranteed a fixed place in the league. Bayern Munich were among the 11 teams.
Since the revelations have both The union of European Football associations (Uefa) and The International Football federation (Fifa) has refused to support a udbryderliga.
It is the Uefa, which organises the european club competitions uefa Champions League and the Europa League.
