Two weeks after the violent death of a 14-year-old in Lohr am Main in Bavaria, investigators found the teenager’s cell phone. The smartphone is now being criminally examined and evaluated, the police and public prosecutor’s office in Würzburg announced in the evening. The investigators hope that the data on the cell phone will provide clues as to why the boy was shot.

The investigative commission (EKO) Nägelsee searched for the cell phone almost every day with the support of the riot police and specially trained data carrier dogs, it said. Authorities did not provide any details about the location.

A young person of the same age is in custody on suspicion of murder. He is said to have killed the victim with a shot from a pistol. According to police, it belonged to a neighbor who owned it legally. It was initially unclear how the teenager got the weapon. The background to the crime in the small town was also initially unknown.
