The government of Catalonia does not want to renounce their offices in Argentina, Mexico and Tunisia, suspended, so injunctive relief by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), and has chosen to approve three new decrees to ensure its reopening and operation. The texts have been approved this Tuesday at the weekly meeting of the Executive Catalan and replace those who had been objects of the measures of the court, last November, following an appeal to the Ministry of Foreign.

“The Government understands that one of their powers and their obligations is to project Catalonia in the world”, has argued the spokesperson and minister of Presidency, Meritxell Budo. The Catalan government announced last June that the implementation of these three embassies, and subsequently appointed their delegates, after a public contest. Foreign filed an appeal with the TSJC but the court rejected as untimely. The Government then considered that the commissioning of these offices was “harmful to the interests of the State” as the government of catalonia has as object “declared the call for internationalization of the procés”.

In November, however, the TSJC ordered the closure interim, waiting to study the matter thoroughly. The director of Foreign Action of the Generalitat, Alfred Bosch, described the decision as “the worst” after the application of article 155 of the Constitution after the declaration of independence of October 2017. For the Government, the closure did not conform to the law because it “prejuzgaban” the proceedings of the delegations before they began their work.

Budo has explained that in the new decrees have been updated and the functions of each of the delegations, although it has not specified which terms are different and if they will be able to avoid the objections of Foreign. “We hope that this time there is no judgment contrary to that, the Government can work with normal international relations,” said the spokesperson.
