National goalkeeper Manuel Neuer completed part of the team training at FC Bayern Munich for the first time since he broke his lower leg almost ten months ago.

The 37-year-old warmed up with his fellow goalkeepers and stood in goal with the field players during some exercises, as the German record champions announced. “It’s a great feeling to be back on the pitch with my teammates. I was really looking forward to it,” said Neuer after training.

The captain was injured in a serious skiing accident last December and had metal removed from his right fibula at the beginning of August. At the end of August he completed a session with his goalkeeper colleagues for the first time. Recently he had to slow down again at times due to calf problems.

In defense, the Munich team’s personnel situation is easing ahead of the Bundesliga top game against cup winners RB Leipzig on Saturday. The central defenders Minjae Kim and Dayot Upamecano trained with the team again, as did Thomas Müller. Defender Matthijs de Ligt, who suffered a blow to the knee against VfL Bochum last weekend, was still missing. The quartet had a break during the 4-0 win in the first round of the cup at Preußen Münster.
