The epidemic made its return aboard the French aircraft carrier Charles-de-Gaulle. Two new cases of coronavirus have been detected among the crew, according to the maritime prefecture of Toulon. “It is a seaman who showed symptoms of the covid-19 Friday on board that has been tested positive”, told the Agence France-Presse, a spokesman for the maritime prefecture of Toulon, confirming information on the regional daily Var-Matin. Among the thirty or more contacts identified – ship and land – to this sailor, only one had tested positive on Wednesday evening, “a marine that had already been tested positive in the first episode”, she added. The maritime prefecture is estimated that”a priori the first marine has contracted the virus outside”.
In April, nearly two-thirds of the crew of the nuclear aircraft carrier, 1 046 sailors on 1 760, had been tested positive. Two of them had to be cared for in the icu. “We are very vigilant but we want to be reassuring to the families and the sailors, after this difficult episode : the person is severely sick this time,” said the maritime prefecture.

Since June 2, said the spokesman, the majority of the crew of the aircraft carrier has returned to the building, and works “in two lined that do not intersect”. “They wear masks, are a maximum of four per room and the common spaces have been closed,” said the prefecture. The aircraft carrier is currently in technical stop in the harbour of Toulon, “no operation is compromised”, she adds.
