The beach volleyball players Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler made it into the knockout round of the World Cup in Tlaxcala, Mexico, without losing a set.

The only German men’s team in the competition defeated the Americans Chaim Schalk/Tri Bourne 22:20 and 21:16 in their third preliminary round game. After some problems in the first set, Ehlers/Wickler improved in the second round and celebrated an easy victory.

In the evening (7 p.m.) the previously unbeaten Laura Ludwig and Louisa Lippmann – like Ehlers/Wickler from Hamburg – will take on Carolina Solberg/Barbara Seixas. The two Brazilians also won their first two games in the championship, which takes place at an altitude of around 2,400 meters, and, like the European Championship third-placed Ludwig/Lippmann, are already in the round of the best 32 teams.

On Tuesday morning, the German champions Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillman from Hamburg as well as Sandra Ittlinger and Karla Borger want to protect their chances of advancing. The Stuttgart women Ittlinger/Borger have to deal with the Mexican outsiders Katherine Albarran and Yamilet Vidaurrazaga (3:00 a.m.). Müller/Tillmann, the third-place finishers at the 2022 World Cup in Rome, will meet the Brazilians Taina Silva/Victoria Lopes (5:00 a.m.). The two German duos started the tournament with one win and one defeat each.
