Threaten Covid-19 patients surviving disease heart problems? This assumption, scientists from the University of Frankfurt Express, according to a study in the journal ‘JAMA Cardiology’.
The Team analysed magnetic resonance images of the heart from a total of 100 patients, recovering from a Covid-19 is a disease – a good two thirds of them at home, the other in the hospital.
78 patients, inflammatory changes of the heart muscle or the pericardium were visible, often in spite of a very slight gradient of the original infection and in otherwise healthy and often athletic patients.
What do these changes mean in the long term, however, is still unclear. For this purpose, the researchers are planning a follow-up of patients, says Co-author Eike Nagel.
The researchers expect that at least in some patients, a small heart remains damage. The increase of the substance Troponin – a Marker for heart muscle damage to speak about – at 71 percent of the 100 patients.
The research was approximately two months after an acute Corona-infection. Thus, the researchers were able to show that it is a direct damage by the Virus, but rather by the Virus triggered immune reaction.
However, the authors point out, the investigation could not draw any conclusions for patients under 18 years of age. So far, you could also give no recommendations for treatment or behavior of patients.
Generally, people after a Corona should infection note, however, in sports your may lower efficiency.
