Söder emphasised that he, in General, the requirement in the Party Constitution enshrined women’s quota support. Criticism of the women’s quota, he could not understand. Skeptical had shown, among others, Friedrich Merz, one of the applicants to the CDU party chairmanship. “We need to consider how we can give women and young women very different opportunities and perspectives,” said Söder. This applied to the Corona-crisis in particular.
The structure and bylaws Commission of the CDU had agreed, after long negotiations, on a compromise for a step women’s quota of 50 per cent by 2025. The final decision must, however, meet the party Congress in December. In the CSU Söder had failed in the past year at the party Congress with the introduction of a quota for women. Then Söder took advantage of a subsequent Cabinet reshuffle in Bavaria, to provide for the first time in the history of the CSU as many women as men with positions in government.
