About ten months after leaving the DFB, former professional soccer player Oliver Bierhoff is taking on a position again and becoming a consultant for the American football team New England Patriots. The NFL club announced this.
“American football is a great sport and great entertainment. I have been a huge football fan for years and love the passion, athleticism and excitement of this game,” said Bierhoff. He is “proud to be part of the Patriots family in the future.” His official title at the club is “Business Advisor”.
The 55-year-old will primarily help the Patriots with their expansion plans in German-speaking countries. Bierhoff was also recently there when the German national soccer team held a training session at the Patriots facility in Foxborough during his planned trip to the USA.
“In Oliver we have found the perfect partner”
Bierhoff was director of the German Football Association (DFB) for many years and was responsible for the national teams and academy. The collaboration ended after the World Cup in Qatar, which ended in failure for the German team as they were eliminated in the preliminary round.
Jen Farron, Chief Marketing Officer at Kraft Sports and Entertainment, said: “Although the New England Patriots have been involved in Germany and other European countries since 2017, this is often still new territory for us. With Oliver we have now found the perfect partner , who supports us as part of our growth strategy in German-speaking countries.” The Patriots will play a season game against the Indianapolis Colts on November 12th (3:30 p.m.) in Frankfurt.
