NEW YORK — The Women’s Sports Foundation honored Allyson Felix (Olympics) and Jordan Larson as Sportswomen of the year.
Felix took home two medals at Tokyo Games, making her the highest-placed American in Olympic track & field history. Larson was the American women’s volleyball team’s first Olympic gold medalist.
Naomi Osaka was awarded the Wilma Rudolph Courage Award because she raised awareness about mental health and social justice issues at Wednesday’s Annual Salute to Women in Sports.
Osaka stated, “I had the courage to speak up growing up and seeing everyone around me doing incredible things,” and “not having any fear and standing up in support of what they believe.”
Kim Ng, the Miami Marlins’ first female general manager, was awarded the Billie Jean King Leadership Award. Larry Scott, former commissioner of Pac 12, and former CEO of WTA Tour, received the Champion for Equality Award.
Before the virtual awards show, King hosted a reception at the New-York Historical Society. The virtual program also featured Joe Torre, a former baseball manager, Meghan Duggan, Olympic hockey player, and two-time World Cup champion Julie Foudy.
