AUSTIN (Texas) — Oklahoma State faced a huge early deficit at Texas and turned to the two things that had kept them undefeated: defense and a brutal run game that could finish the last quarter.
The Longhorns eventually folded. Yet again.
Tanner Brown’s fourth field goal gave the No. The 12 Cowboys took the lead in the fourth quarter. With 2:18 left, quarterback Spencer Sanders’s scrambling 10-yard touchdown run secured a 32-24 win as No. 25 Texas lost for the second time in succession.
Mike Gundy, Oklahoma State coach, said, “We talk about no fear. No frustration. no fatigue.”
Texas had leads of 17-3, 24-13 and 23-13 thanks to three touchdowns by Bijan Robinson. The Cowboys’ defense began dominating the line-of-scrimmage before tailback Jaylen Warren started smashing Longhorns for massive gains.
Brown’s kick and Jason Taylor II’s interception return of 85 yards for a touchdown kept Oklahoma State ahead. With less than two minutes remaining, Tanner McAlister’s intercept gave Oklahoma its third consecutive win over a top-ranked opponent. This was the first time such a feat has been achieved in school history.
Texas was allowed 317 yards total by the Cowboys. Warren ended the game with 193 yards of rushing, 33 carries and 154 yards during the second half rally.
With a touchdown pass to Brennan Presley of 7 yards, Sanders brought Oklahoma State within 24-22. Brown’s 29 yard field goal put the Cowboys in front.
Texas had plenty of time to regain the lead but the Cowboys defense stopped Texas on Texas 42. Two plays later, Sanders scored and Oklahoma State won with Tanner McAlister’s interception with 1 minutes to play.
