At the Federal Congress of the Green Youth, the members of the youth organization massively criticized the work of the parent party and the federal government. “My solidarity with the traffic lights is at an end,” said Sarah Lee Heinrich, who was farewelled as federal spokeswoman at the event in Leipzig. Timon Dzienus – Heinrich’s counterpart who also passed away – joined the criticism. “I am glad that we have not become a Robert Annalena Ampel fan club,” he said on Saturday, referring to Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck and Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
The junior organization also elected its new leadership at the congress. According to the Green Youth, the 25-year-old medical student Svenja Appuhn and the 25-year-old meteorologist Katharina Stolla are the first female leadership duo in twelve years. In their speeches, Appuhn and Stolla called for, among other things, more redistribution through a millionaires’ tax, the introduction of so-called climate money and “climate protection in turbo mode.” Both were previously members of the board of the Green Youth.
Sharp criticism of the traffic light policy
Stolla also massively criticized the traffic light coalition’s migration policy. This is an “inhumane isolation policy”. Current politics are “shabby” and have “nothing to do with reality.” The Greens should “finally stop the disenfranchisement of refugees” and “oppose this shift to the right,” said Stolla. The fact that the Greens agreed to the government’s migration package was “not only morally questionable, but also strategically wrong,” said Stolla.
Appuhn called the climate crisis a distribution conflict and called for an end to policies that “play an empty wallet against the end of the planet.” She demanded from Green Party Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck: “We expect a climate policy that always clarifies the social question first.”
Lang praised the work of the party youth
The Green Party federal chairwoman Ricarda Lang came to the congress and faced some points of criticism. The introduction of climate money is one of the most important projects in this legislature, she said. The climate money is intended to flow the state’s income from the CO2 price back to its citizens.
In order to improve the reception of refugees in Germany, investments must be made in the social infrastructure of municipalities, said Lang. She also praised the work of the party youth. She managed to strengthen and expand alliances with climate movements.
The Federal Congress is the highest organ of the Green Youth. Under the motto “Solidarity without limits!” At its 57th congress, the youth organization called for “more international solidarity again”. The focus of the debates were topics such as redistribution, migration, the rise of the AfD and social justice.
