Bayer Leverkusen remains top of the Bundesliga table after the eighth matchday. Coach Xabi Alonso’s team won 2-1 (1-1) at VfL Wolfsburg and took back top spot from Borussia Dortmund. BVB, who were victorious on Friday, were again overtaken by VfB Stuttgart and FC Bayern Munich. The record champions won the top game of the eighth matchday in the evening 3-1 (2-1) at FSV Mainz 05. Stuttgart won 3-0 (1-0) at 1. FC Union Berlin, top scorer Serhou Guirassy had to be substituted injured.
RB Leipzig remains in the top group after a 3-1 (2-1) win at SV Darmstadt 98, while Eintracht Frankfurt won 3-1 (3-1) at TSG Hoffenheim in the pursuit game. VfL Bochum is in danger of relegation after the 1:2 (1:2) draw at SC Freiburg.
Jeremie Frimpong (13th) was successful for Bayer. Leverkusen then struggled to score the second goal. Instead, Maxence Lacroix (41st) equalized. Alejandro Grimaldo (62nd) brought Bayer back to the lead in the table.
FC Bayern took the lead early through Kingsley Coman (11th), goal scorer Harry Kane (16th) increased shortly afterwards. Mainz’s goal before the break by Anthony Caci (43′) was countered by Leon Goretzka (59′) after the break to make it 3-1.
Guirassy scores again
Guirassy scored his 14th goal of the season for VfB in the 16th minute. The 27-year-old wasn’t able to play for much longer; after just half an hour, the striker had to be substituted due to an injury. A diagnosis was not announced during the game. Silas Katompa Mvumpa (81st) and Deniz Undav (88th) secured the victory.
Leipzig’s Loïs Openda took the lead in Darmstadt after just 44 seconds, scoring the earliest goal of the season so far. Emil Forsberg (24th) followed up with a free kick. Then Leipzig’s Kevin Kampl caused a penalty kick, the fouled Tobias Kempe (32nd) didn’t miss the chance. Openda (72nd) restored the two-goal gap.
In Hoffenheim, Maximilian Beier (3rd) scored early to give the hosts the lead. But Omar Marmoush (11th) managed to equalize early before Ansgar Knauff (23rd) turned the game around. Ellyes Skhiri (45.3) ensured Eintracht’s lead was even more reassuring at the break.
VfL took the lead in Freiburg through Gonçalo Paciência (15th). Ritsu Dōan (26th) equalized in the first half. Because Bernardo touched the ball with his arm during a defensive action in the penalty area, referee Tobias Reichel awarded a penalty against Bochum. Vincenzo Grifo (45.2) converted.
