The Inner Sanctum has assembled a team consisting of the top performing players who took part in Round 25 A-League Men.
Despite Sydney FC and Melbourne City being absent from the Asian Champions League, Round 25 was a great success, with lots of action and outstanding individual performances.
We’ve compiled The Inner Sanctum’s Team of The Week, the top XI of the most outstanding performers, based on the latest set of fixtures.
Goalkeeper and defender
GK: Michael Weier, Newcastle Jets
Arthur Papas chose to start Weier before Jack Duncan between the posts. The former Hume City goalie paid him back by making six saves, and keeping a clean slate against the Bulls.
RB: Dane Ingham, Newcastle Jets
Ingham played an excellent game in his return to the starting XI against Macarthur. Ingham, 22 years old, defended brilliantly throughout the match. He made three tackles for every outfield player and his cross was the one that allowed Beka Mikeltadze to score Newcastle’s third goal.
CB: Alexandar Popovic (Adelaide United)
Wow, what a display from Popovic at the back against Brisbane. Popovic won the most tackles and made seven ball recovery. He also won seven duels. His commanding display at back left the Roar disappointed and unable to bring Alex Parsons and Henry Hore into the game.
CB: Kye Rowles (Central Coast Mariners)
After a remarkable “man mountain” performance against Western United, Rowles is our TOTW. With 12 clearances and five ball recoveries, the Socceroo set an example with his winning 100% of his ground duels.
LB: Jason Davidson (Melbourne Victory)
Melbourne Victory’s 3-1 victory over Wellington Phoenix was an electric win, and Davidson was a major part of that. With a brilliant cross for Marco Rojas, Davidson got his third assist of season and could have had more. Considering that he only made seven key passes.
