Italy assumes command of the NATO mission in Iraq. General Giovanni Iannucci, with a ceremony held yesterday in Baghdad, took the place of the Danish Michael Lollesgaard, whose post lasted one year.
On the occasion of the alternation, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg thanked Lollesgaard for his “exemplary leadership” and “progress in the mission” in cooperation with the Iraqi authorities, and then greeted the arrival of Iannucci: “I do not see l ‘Time to work closely with it as he leads our activities in support of Iraqi security institutions and the Iraqi military, as requested by the Iraqi government. “The NATO mission in Iraq was launched at the Alliance Summit in Brussels in July 2018 , following a request from the Iraqi government. Established in Baghdad in October 2018, it is a non-combat mission that assists Iraq in rebuilding security-related institutions and the armed forces, so that they are able to stabilize their country, fight terrorism and prevent the return of Isis.
