The first deputy mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, has made it known this Friday that the city council will propose Barcelona’s candidacy to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, if Chanel wins the contest this Saturday.
He said this in an interview on Ràdio 4 and La 2 where he assured that “Barcelona has the ambition and vocation to host major cultural events”. He recalled that the Catalan capital is currently the headquarters of Primavera Sound, Sonar and the Cruilla.
“Barcelona has great spaces for it”, assured Collboni, who mentioned the Palau Sant Jordi, “which could perfectly accommodate it”. Then he valued the contest and stressed that Eurovision is a festival in which more than 40 countries participate and that it has an audience of around 300-400 million viewers, so he sees in it an opportunity for the city: “Why not?”, He raised at the end of the interview.
In addition to Barcelona, a few days ago it was the Malaga town of Torremolinos that applied, as the mayor of the municipality, Margarita del Cid (PP), assured, if Spain wins the Eurovision final in Turin. Valencia did the same, which through its mayor, Joan Ribó, proposed the capital of the Turia as the venue.
