Soon therapy. It is the name of a relatively recent technique for radiotherapy treatment for cancer patients, with which 32 cancer patients in Castilla y León can be treated.

This advance in science allows for a more precise and localized release of radiation, since it is administered to the patient with smaller, better directed particles and with a different disometric behavior. Currently, in Spain there is no public center with a proton accelerator.

And the Government Council of the Junta de Castilla y León has approved this week the authorization to contract these treatments with prompt therapy with which to attend to 32 patients in the public health system of Castilla y León, of which 20 will be children and 12 adults .

The Regional Health Management has budgeted more than 7.1 million euros for the contracting of these treatments. As it is an alternative therapy, according to the Spanish Society of Radiotherapy Oncology, it will be able to reach 32 patients in Castilla y León, 20 of them pediatric, to whom the treatment is prescribed.

Treatments with proton therapy also involve the corresponding initial and follow-up consultations; routine and special complementary examinations; previous diagnostic tests and rethinking; the proton therapy sessions themselves until the end of the treatment; hospitalization; concomitant chemotherapy treatment; and administration of blood products and/or blood components.
