The Valencian Alejandro Climent takes the provisional podium on the first day of the Cutty Sark “Spirit of Adventure” FKSS in Gijón water. The Argentine sailor Federico Aguilar opens his participation in the circuit with a second place tied with the British Jack Mckendrick.

Today’s day was presented with the classic weather of the north coast of Spain, cloudy, with light rain, known as orvallo, and cool temperatures. Fortunately, the wind began to pick up as the morning progressed, allowing the first test of the day to take place at 3:00 p.m.

Once the riders entered the race course, Climent’s dominance over the fleet was evident, crossing the finish line in first position in each of the six races contested on the first day of the Cutty Sark “Spirit of Adventure” FKSS in the waters of the Cantabrian Sea.

After returning to San Lorenzo beach, in the heart of Gijón, the Valencian commented: “The first day in Gijón has been a complete success as we have managed to complete six fun tasks with a stable wind. In addition, the presence of athletes of different nationalities has given the fleet an incredible level of professionalism. I managed to lead all six races and I hope to continue with this pace in the following days”.

The great results obtained by Climent were not the only ones to bring excitement to the competition, since behind him an Anglo-Argentine battle was brewing for the provisional second and third places. Britain’s Jack Mckendrick and Argentina’s Federico Aguilar finished the day with a twelve-point tie after obtaining almost the same results throughout the six races, with three second and two third positions each.

On the other hand, the Amateur and Advanced classes enjoyed sharing the regatta field for the first time with the highest level athletes. Thanks to the good conditions presented by the Bay of Gijón and the desire to compete shown by the participants, the technical committee led by official Alexandre Durán decided to give the start signal to all classes in the Cutty Sark “Spirit of Adventure” FKSS 2022 Gijon.

The Catalan Pau Soler took the first provisional podium in the Advanced class on the first day of competition in Asturian waters. While Diego Anta positioned himself at the head after leading from start to finish all the races disputed in the F-one Amateur class.
