Idt described Sartre as a “promotional boss.” It is a fortunate denomination because it not only accurately characterizes one of the roles that the author of Nausea played in the literary society of his time, but also because it offers an illuminating perspective for the observation of the increasingly visible phenomenon of our new maîtres- préfaciers , who, in some cases, despite competing in lower weight categories, are on their way to beating the stratospheric Sartre records. What characterizes a cacique is influence based on the ability to exercise control and the establishment of patronage networks through the exchange of favors and the position that the recognition of this ability to influence confers. In The Social Conditions of the Circulation of Ideas, Pierre Bourdieu sarcastically defended the need for a comparative sociology of the prefaces considered as typical acts of symbolic capital transfer. The method he proposed was simple.
