Ander Capa has stepped on a pitch again. He has done it to play the last minutes (he jumped in the 87th minute) of the last game that San Mamés has hosted this season, with Athletic’s victory against Osasuna by 2-0. The Portuguese side played his last match on April 25, 2021, in an Athletic 2-1 Atlético.
These are the first minutes that Marcelino concedes to the defender this season, where he has been the last option for the Spaniard behind Iñigo Lekue, Óscar de Marcos and Alex Petxarromán. Capa was even close to scoring a goal that would have caused delirium in La Catedral. In the 91st minute, his shot from outside the area kissed Sergio Herrera’s goalpost.
Capa ‘owes’ these minutes to Yeray, sore in the final stretch of the match after spraining his ankle in an action. The center back could hardly continue on the field, but if he had been substituted, Athletic would have exhausted the changes, and Capa would not have been able to play.
