The Vegas Golden Knights fired head coach Peter DeBoer on Monday, weeks after the season ended with the franchise’s first playoff ban.

DeBoer therefore paid for the failure of his team, who finished ninth in the Western Conference despite 94 points. Previously, he had allowed the club to reach the third playoff round in 2020-2021, the Knights lowering their flag to the Montreal Canadiens.

“We would like to thank Peter DeBoer for his commitment over the past three campaigns. Since joining our organization, he has guided us through some of the most unique and demanding circumstances we have had since joining the National League. After extensive discussions over the past two weeks, we have concluded that a new instructor will put us in a better position to be successful next year,” said general manager Kelly McCrimmon in a statement.

With DeBoer in charge, Vegas went 98-50-12. He also led the New Jersey Devils, Florida Panthers and San Jose Sharks.
