MADRID, 17 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Association of Victims of Terrorism (AVT) has requested explanations through a letter sent to the US Embassy for the decision to remove ETA from the list of foreign terrorist organizations, showing its “deep concern” by recalling the more than 300 unsolved crimes judicially and the need to locate dozens of members of the terrorist group who have fled with pending cases.
In a letter signed by the president of the AVT, Maite Araluce, sent to the US ambassador to Spain, Julissa Reynoso, the association requests a working meeting to address this issue. In the letter, consulted by Europa Press, the more than 800 victims of ETA are remembered, among them the North American citizen Eugene Kenneth Brown, who died in 1985 in the attack against a civil guard bus in the República Argentina square in Madrid.
“Although in 2018 ETA announced its dissolution, there are still more than 300 terrorist murders pending resolution and dozens of members of the terrorist organization on the run with pending cases with justice,” the AVT points out in its letter.
The AVT, which calls for international cooperation, submits its letter as the “oldest association in the world” on behalf of a group of more than 4,800 victims. It does so due to its “deep concern” about the consequences of removing ETA from the list of foreign terrorist organisations.
A decision by the State Department that, the association warns, is framed as stated by the US authorities in a “procedure that strictly conforms to the law”, despite which they require explanations to know the details and possible consequences.
