Kfund, Prosegur and Atresmedia, among the investors

MADRID, 18 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Telefónica has led, through Telefónica Ventures, a round of eight million euros in the Durcal telecare application for the elderly.

The startup provides a service consisting of a watch with GPS, similar to a ‘smartwatch’, connected to a telecare application that allows family members to know where the elderly person is or to control their vital signs.

Mangrove, KFund, Prosegur Tech Ventures, Aldea Ventures and Atresmedia, among others, have also participated in the round, in addition to the CEO of Durcal, Guillem Viladomat, according to a statement.

Telefónica already offers Durcal services through its ‘joint-venture’ with Prosegur: Movistar Prosegur Alarmas. In this association, the device detects falls and alerts the monitoring station, which contacts the wearer of the bracelet and manages the necessary assistance.

With this new investment, Durcal will continue expanding the promotion in Spain of its smart watch with integrated GPS and developing new functionalities that adapt to the needs of the elderly.

Likewise, the objective of the startup is to expand its footprint in Andorra and expand towards Latin America.

The CEO of the startup has assured that the company receives the investment at “a key moment” and that this will allow the company to promote “new services, and sell its ‘smartwatches’ online.

The head of Investments at Telefónica Ventures, Pablo Moro, highlighted that Telefónica’s investment arm continues to bet on companies that reinforce the operator’s verticals.

“With Durcal, we already have a portfolio of 14 startups invested directly and more than 110 startups invested through our network of Venture Capital funds”, he highlighted.
