The Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM) has launched a public consultation on a real estate project of more than 1,000 housing units located on the site of the former Pro Gym, an establishment on Hochelaga Street that has often been associated with the outlaw bikers.

The approach involves the transformation of the site, where the commercial building that housed the gym would be demolished to make way for several “mixed-use” buildings.

The project provides for the construction of 1,000 housing units, including social, affordable and family housing, a commercial area, and as well as “community facilities and workshops”.

However, the project requires the adoption of a regulation by the borough, since it derogates from certain urban planning regulations, in particular on authorized heights and construction density.

A first information session will take place on June 2. The process is expected to end on August 30 with a hearing of opinions session.

For nearly 25 years, the land in question hosted the Pro Gym, which has often been associated with the biker community. The establishment moved last November to rue Langelier, in the borough of Saint-Léonard.
