MADRID, 18 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, assured that “it is not easy to fit a smear campaign” like the one he is “living” after this Wednesday he denied having made recordings to the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, nor “to any minister or any member of United We Can”.

“It is not easy to fit in a smear campaign as big as the one I am experiencing, to see how so many things are stolen from your mobile and how the news has been manipulated,” said Rubiales in statements to Movistar.

Rubiales was calm — “I have not committed any illegality” — and recalled that since he has held the position of president of the RFEF he has always “worked with great professionalism and honesty for Spanish football.”

This morning, in an official statement from the RFEF, the Federation already explained the same. “This is a smear campaign orchestrated from a very clear and defined group of people in order to destroy the reputation of Luis Rubiales, a victim of these maneuvers and all those who are behind collaborating with the same objective,” denounced the RFEF in the note.
