Alfonso Rueda, after presiding over his first Ordinary Council, has unveiled the names of who will conform to his ‘praetorian guard’ in the Xunta. Beatriz Cuña assumes the position of xeral secretary of the presidency; Silvia Valdés, the media secretary; Jorge Pan, general director of communication; and Emilio De la Iglesia, general director of the president’s office.

In parallel, there are three new dismissals, linked to the departure of Alberto Núñez Feijóo to Madrid, to dedicate himself full time to presiding over the PP, and the consequent promotion of Rueda: Álvaro Pérez ceases as general secretary of the presidency; Marcos Gómez Román, as general director of communication; and Juan José Martín, as General Director of Justice.

Rueda has highlighted, in the first place, de Cuña, who has accompanied him “from the beginning” and “occupies a fundamental position”, of coordination and transversality.

A performance that has led him to opt for a person of his “maximum trust”. De Valdés, who makes the leap from Industry, where she was chief of staff since 2016; she will now coordinate the Xunta’s relationship with the media. From Pan, who had been serving as chief of staff of the Department of Social Policy. And from De la Iglesia, he highlighted her work in the management of Tourism of Galicia.
