The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office will investigate the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales, for the facts that emerge from the audios with the FC Barcelona player Gerard Piqué, revealed by ‘El Confidencial’.

This Thursday it has been known that Anticorruption opens proceedings to investigate this case after the complaint that the president of the National Training Center for Trainers (Cenafe), Miguel Galán, presented to this prosecutor’s office a month ago. The same one who confronted Rubiales in the RFEF elections that the latter won after another complaint from Galán himself in 2016 led to the arrest of the former president of the Federation, Ángel María Villar, the following year, in the framework of Operation Soule.

After the audios between Rubiales and Piqué to organize the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia, this coach and affiliated with the RFEF itself submitted a letter to the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office accusing Rubiales of up to five crimes, such as corruption between individuals and in business , unfair administration, administrative prevarication and bribery.

And the Prosecutor’s Office now understands that what these reveal could constitute “facts of dubious legality”, which is why it has decided to open proceedings to investigate the collection of a commission of up to 24 million euros by a Piqué company for its intermediation with Saudi Arabia for the RFEF to celebrate the Super Cup in this country.

Galán’s complaint also points to the culé defender and the company with which he carried out this operation. It explains that Rubiales “pressured the Riyadh authorities to pay the FC Barcelona player up to 24 million euros for playing the tournament in that country and then tried to hide the player’s participation in the contract.”

He also pointed out the complaint of this coach that in the organization of a competition like the Super Cup «there are no commissions or bribes or anything. The Federation is not a private company or a limited company that can carry out a normal legal business in this specific case.
